About the Author

GARY COLLINS is a licensed clinical psychologist with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Purdue University. He is the author of more than two hundred articles and more than fifty books, including The Biblical Basis for Christian Counseling (NavPress) and Christian Counseling: A Comprehensive Guide (Third edition published in 2007) and Christian Coaching (NavPress). Gary served for twenty years as professor of psychology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, was president of the 15,000-member American Association of Christian Counselors, and was founding editor of Christian Counseling Today magazine. He is Distinguished Professor of Leadership and Coaching at Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta and Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Regent University in Virginia. He writes a weekly newsletter on coaching and counseling and frequently travels overseas and within North America to speak on issues relating to Christian counseling and coaching.

I have received coach training through my state association and through independent reading and training and this book has been the most helpful in assisting me to transition from a more "informal" approach to coaching to beginning to take on "formal" coaching clients. I haven't had a paying client yet, but that's because I'm in ministry and I'm willing to "coach" many people as part of my position. I coach staff and other growing leaders within my organization. But I was stuck trying to move into more formal coaching relationships and this book helped me greatly to get over that sticking point.

I knew about coaching from Life Leadership, from Unbound, and of course, from sports. Collins goes in depth with his work, though, in a way that opened up my mind even more to the potential of Christian coaching to make an impact upon the world. His call for young people to catch this vision, his foundation upon the Messiah's own coaching example, his honesty about the difficulties and rewards of the field - all of these aspects inspired me to take a real look at how coaching could help people across cultures and ages to achieve their God-given potential. I am excited to see this field grow and to be a part of it!

I haven't finished reading it. But so far so good. It is very insightful and practical. It is refreshing and re-enforcing what I'd learned from coaching school. The author inserted good examples of his own experiences and of others.

Christian Coaching is very informative. It discusses what Christian Coaching is and then give steps to accomplish goals. The coaching circle can be used for clients and any issue life presents. The book shares concerns of accreditation and shares cautions of opening a client based business. It holds your attention from the first page to the last. It's a "must-read" for anyone considering Christian Life Coaching.

I read this for a course I took on Christian Counseling somit was assigned, but was an easy, conversational style read. Great info. I would recommend to anyone interested in coaching as a career or supplemental job.

As I began to hear about coaching I ordered this book on a whim. Little did I realize that while reading it on a vacation, God would ignite a passion in my soul for coaching. A great overview of Christian Coaching as you begin your journey of learning more about coaching. As a leadership coach, I have recommended this book to many others who want to add Coaching to their skill set of helping others.

I love the content and how it is simple and easy to read, and give everything you need for Christian coaching. It's AMAZING material.

On balance, a good, basic book for those entering the coaching profession. It will teach you more than how to ask good questions. It demonstrates several different questioning styles and models and has an abundance of advice relating to the business side of coaching. It's a little outdated, but there aren't a whole lot of books specifically dealing with this topic.
