The story in itself really made me think and appreciate the concept of time more in different ways. I suppose that's what a story should do: keep you pondering. I also became find of the main character. That is why I gave it three stars. Other than that, the supporting characters and dialogue/writing at times was laborious and painful to get through. Overall the story was very touching and heartfelt, and had a moral to it, as expected. But I'd like to have had it been more intelligent.

I think I am a successful man. I have found love, and learned also to love. In my later years I am still learning so much. I think more than anything, I want to understand.In this book is a secret. It was not the secret I thought it was, which was to live in the present.For me, it is the secret that, now is always "just the right moment. "Don't begrudge how long it took me to get here, and don't doubt the future.When I am, and where I am, is right now. My choices of how to live right now are in my hands.Right now can be terrible, and for that, there is hope. No one knows what the next moment will bring.Right now can be wonderful, and the temptation will be there to hope that it will never end, but if it never ended it would not be wonderful, it would be torture.When we live in our fears, we either relive a painful past, or attempt to avoid a projected poor future, but we are not living in the present.This book lets me explore these thoughts and feelings, and release them. I hope you find it as well.

This unusual book is for deep-thinkers. He takes the 'simple' concept of time, and relates it to a few characters, who represent the bulk of society. He jumps back and forth in time, and between alternating scenarios. However, he does this effectively by using very short excerpts with 'bolded' sentence headings.The author is examining the myth of 'Father Time' and the reality of 'actual' time.My favorite saying is: Wear death on your shoulder as a friend, and you will live life more fully. It's the one certainty in life. But this author takes it a step further... He examines time within the circle of life.This author's unique writing style, the mysterious way he's exposing the plot, along with his 'simply-told' lofty concepts, is most-likely the reason he's garnered accolades for this book. I enjoyed it thoroughly! P.S. Don't ask for more time to read it... An inside joke...

I heard this story by listening to the audio book version (which was narrated very well by Dan Stevens). Audio books aren't my favorite book format because you can't mark them up if you feel so inclined (although I do admit they can be very convenient). After listening to the book, I now need to read it. There are so many passages I want to highlight.When the story began, I wasn't terribly taken with it. However, I quickly became became immersed in the story. I loved it! I liked the idea of how much time is part of our lives.The story is very well written (no surprise there) and is thought-provoking, as well. I enjoyed it very much.

Four and one-half stars for this reflective and spiritually didactic fable. This book is a lesson in valuing time. Through the lessons each of the main characters learns—Sarah Lemon, a lovelorn teenager; Victor Delamonte, a wealthy and fatally ill man in his eighties; and their instructor Dor (Father Time)—the reader experiences an epiphany regarding his/her view of time. Sarah Lemon wants to stop time; Victor Delamonte wants to extend time; while Dor, who has lived thousands of years (God's punishment for his attempts at being the first to count time), has learned the value of time, which he is obligated to teach to Sarah and Victor.

The Time Keeper is one of those great works of literature where most everyone who had read it will tell you "You MUST read this book!" Yet, when I picked up the slight hardcover that I'd put off reading for far too look, I continued to question the wisdom of the collective masses. The simplicity of Albom's style, at least as it appeared to me at the beginning of the book, made me wonder what all the fuss was about. What did this prehistoric couple, the man in the cave, a girl in a present day watch store and cryonics have to do with each other?Am I glad I decided to read on! As it turns out, Albom is a genius and the beauty of his prose is in its precision.There is nothing superfluous on the page. Each word has purpose and meaning as Albom masterfully weaves the cords of his story together.Though there is a temptation to race through Albom's works due to their brevity, I've found it best to slow myself down to better appreciate them. By taking the time to fully digest each sentence and ruminate on the subtext, I found great meaning in The Time Keeper. It is a work I treasure and, yes, strongly encourage others to read too.

Mitch Albom is one of my favorite authors. His books are quick, thoughtful reads. I really loved the beginning of this story but as it went on, it became a little predictable. Still thought provoking, though, which for me makes it worth it. My favorite line from the book reads "You marked the minutes...but did you use them wisely? To be still? To cherish? To be grateful? To lift and be lifted?" I don't appreciate book reviews that tell you the whole story, so I'm not going to let on too much. But I will say if that line gets to you, you'll surely enjoy this book! As with all of Albom's books, it left me examining myself; my priorities; my goals.
