Judith Miller began collecting in the 1960s while a student at Edinburgh University in Scotland. She has since extended and reinforced her knowledge of antiques through international research, becoming one of the world's leading experts in the field. In 1979 she co-founded the international best-seller Miller's Antiques Price Guide and has sincewritten more than 100 books which are held in high regard by collectors and dealers. Judith Miller appears regularly on TV and radio. She is an expert on the BBC 's Antiques Roadshow and has co-hosted the popular BBC series The House Detectives, ITV's Antiques Trail, and Discovery's It's Your Bid. She has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show and C NN. Product is great! Has a massive amount of antiques and extensive knowledge. Only problem is that when I received it, the books protector and cover had been stabbed by a pen repeatedly.

This handbook is always good! But the prices can not be applied to our brasilian reality.

It doesn't get much better than this. Classic book that is done right year after year. Great all the way around.

When it comes to antique handbooks and price guides, Judith Miller's "Antique Handbook & Price Guide" are one of the best out there.With that being said, it's not perfect nor will it please everyone, including long time Antique Handbook & Price Guide readers.The reason being is that with each handbook and price guide, there are things touched upon in those years, that are not touched on in another year.So, you're not going to find everything in just one book, certain interests, you'll need to purchase a previous year. There is no way to fit everything and sure they could have limited many pages to fit various topics but if anything, a lot of the things you find in antique stores deal with porcelain, ceramics and furniture, clocks, music boxes, etc. And all those things that you usually find often, are featured in the primary contents.Again, these price guides are not going to be perfect for everyone and sure, certain things featured in previous books, may not appear in this book but the good news is you can find the other handbook and price guides online or even get them used for a great price."Miller's Antiques Handbook & Price Guide 2018-2019" is recommended!

Miller's Price Guides are meant to be cumulative in nature, meaning they don't cover exactly the same categories every year. The serious collector or auction house will purchase the handbook each year, and use past guides as well as the current year as an ongoing reference. With the enduring popularity of TV programs like "The Antiques Roadshow" and "Storage Wars", I'm sure many people are also purchasing this handbook looking for that hidden treasure.This is an excellent quality book measuring 10.5 in. x 8 in. and is filled with high resolution color photographs on smooth glossy paper, bound in a high quality sewn volume designed to lay flat when open on a table. The book features color coding at the top of each page as a shortcut to the location of each section. In addition, the categories (Porcelain, Oriental, Furniture, etc.) are vertically printed on the right side of the each page allowing the reader to fan the pages to quickly locate the section of interest. The sections are further subdivided by multiple variations (type, colors, periods, construction/composition, region/origin, etc.) which are labeled at the top right of each page.Each category features a one page synopsis of the current market. There are approximately six to eight pieces detailed on each page, with each item featuring a full color photo, a short description, dimensions, price range in US Dollars, along with a three character source code that identifies the auction house or collector from where the photograph originated. The values of the items in the guide range from several hundred to several hundred-thousand US dollars.Throughout the book there are numerous "ESSENTIAL REFERENCE" and "CLOSER LOOK" insets featuring historical and other details about the various categories and subcategories. The author will occasionally highlight an item with a "Judith Picks" inset, which features interesting background, historical and/or market information about a piece she finds particularly interesting.I was surprised to find several advertisements for auction houses, and ads for the authors' other reference books scattered throughout the book. Most of these ads are 1/4 page, but several are full page in size. Fortunately these ads are sparse and I didn't find they detracted much from the overall book.**** 4 STARS - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! ****

The book takes an overall glance at what is an enormous world of antique value. There is a huge range of categories ranging from furniture to handbags. The word antique is used somewhat liberally in some cases as I spotted Phillipe Starck lamp from 2005 in the book,( I was still excited to see it in covered in the book).All of the quotes on value have been made by auction houses, dealers, private collectors. It is noted also that the prices in the book are what you can expect to pay if purchasing one of these items either in an auction or collectibles shop. It's a great place to start when beginning an interest in antiques.Also interesting is a little overall analysis at the beginning of each section taking on the overall current value and popularity of the category. The book talks about the state of the market in each section, and what the overall feeling is on confidence. I found this to be very interesting.It's a great guide for anyone interested antiques and their value in the current market.
