We normally LOVE the Nav's Lifechange series, and I want to preface this comment with that because we are very thankful for all the hard work they put into their series. We've used many when studying the epistles and have found them beneficial.Well, this study is not like those. I'm not a huge fan of the way the studies are broken up since each lesson relates to so many Psalms, but my bigger concern is the questions. They are weak and very opinion-oriented and do not seem to stick very closely to the text at all. We have found ourselves making up our own discussion questions for our studies because the questions are just no-good.

Wonderful review; understanding the greatness of God and his love for us is fabulous

I was hoping this book would have a lot of stories from past passengers, pictures etc. Not what it has. All you get is a bunch of photos most which look as if they were taken during the same trip or visit.I wanted to really see what this ship was like to travel on and this book doesn't really give you any good information, photos or stories. Better to look up the vessel on the internet and youtube.Save your money

Overall, this is a fine history of an overlooked ship. The text is informative and the color photos interesting. I would like to have seen more interior photos instead of renderings and additional info on her final years.One real gripe is that the author gets gross tonnage mixed up with weight. Gross Tonnage measures the enclosed space of a ship. Displacement is weight.

Overall, congratulations are due to Mr Britton on his excellent biography of the Pasteur / Bremen. The book is very well written and the abundant photos and graphics are excellent. My pet peeve with many ocean liner books is a lack of a detailed deck plan and as we see a scan of a deck plan cover among the graphics, we know that Mr. Britton had one available. It would have been a great addition and could have easily taken the place of some fairly repetitious photos. My only other critique would be that the short Chandris period deserved a bit more detail. What were her itineraries in those two years? An additional photo or two and sample menus or programs would have improved this very short chapter and made for a better comparison to her former life. . Overall, I am delighted to add this book to my ocean liner library. I also have to add kudos to History Press for producing ocean liner books of much higher quality than their competitor Amberly.

Excellent story of a beautiful French ship. I had an older relative was on board her as "Pastuer" and a troopship. i've been on board her on a few occasions as "Bremen". A great liner. Book well done.

This is a book used by our homeschool group for The Business of English. Very interesting read with inspirational and encouraging biographical notes on a man who by all appearances never seemed destined for greatness. Read this with your struggling teen :)

Very relevant. My copy has several passages underlined, such as this one about how Lincoln prepared for public speaking. Phillips wrote, "He spent hours, sometimes days and weeks, researching his subject..." I've read elsewhere that Lincoln spent lots of time thinking through what he was going to say, and spent so much time with his speech in private, that it became a part of him, and when he delivered it, he was speaking from the depth of his being. Case in point: The Gettysburg Address.

When I read the writings of those who lived thru the Civil War, I always wonder at how poor our current writing is in comparison. Lincoln, like so many in that day are incredibly articulate. In addition to the style points, I give this book 5 stars because it conveys the leadership abilities and principles of the man.

But, I am working on my reviews and thought I would put one our for this book. I have probably read this book, at least, three times. I have used references from this book many times more than this during graduate school. Phillips does a great job breaking down Lincoln's MWA (Managing while Walking Around) theory. Lincoln felt that the best way to "manage" people was in the midst of them. You cannot know what your staff is doing unless you can see what they are doing, speak with them at their level and be where they are. I use this in my own management. I would recommend this book and have done so many, many times. The book is also short enough to be an easy-read, while educational in it's theories.

I'm glad I took the time to read this book. Abraham Lincoln is one of the great men in American history and the way the author took strategies from the past and applied them to modern day challenges is amazing. A must read for those in leadership positions.

The leadership principles and practices laid out in this book are well summarized at the conclusion of each chapter. The author seemed a bit overboard that Lincoln could do no wrong. Though Lincoln proved to be one of the greatest leaders to occupy the White House, it is interesting how he fit his times and how his times fit him. It would've been helpful had the author mentioned some of Lincoln's shortcomings and how Lincoln himself learned from his mistakes and developed as a leader in an executive position.

This books explains the challenges he faced not only to save the Union and end slavery but to succeed with powerful political opposition and problems within his family that made life and leadership difficult. Even so, we see this magnificent, humble, courageous and wise man move forward, focus on his agenda and teach us to not be afraid, even in the face of death.I found this book valuable for my own research on Lincoln that I used in my recent leadership book. This is a great book for examining religions based on their own doctrine, but viewed through the lenses of a fundamentalist christian author (Walter Martin and now additionally Ravi Zacharias). This book views theology from the Christian Bible as it basis and foundation, and has been widely embraced by fundamentalists and evangelicals, but many of the adherents to faiths labeled as cults within the book, have openly opposed the book for obvious reasons.Walter Martin died in 1989 I believe, but he had held to a baptist Christian perspective toward the bible and theology. He and his book are still widely considered an authoritative reference by many fundamentalists and evangelicals. If you are not familiar with Ravi Zacharias (I believe RZIM.org is the website for this ministry) there is a lot of video footage available on youtube that will relate his doctrinal beliefs much better than I could ever do here.In a very condensed nutshell, Ravi Zacharias is a very well educated Christian theologian (originally from India I believe), who is often invited to speak on college campuses and in various venues most speakers would consider too hostile toward Christian beliefs. Based on the videos I have viewed, Ravi seems to genuinely believe Jesus is the Christ prophesied of and made known in the Judaeo Christian Bible, and he therefore serves Jesus according to this belief in a very humble and extraordinarily patient way.Regardless of one's position on Christ or ones determination of Faith, there is a wealth of knowledge from Philosophy, Sociology, History, and Religion found in Ravi Zacharias' teachings. However, if you love learning more about Jesus and hold a bible-believing faith in salvation based on grace and faith in Jesus Christ as I do, you will likely also love Ravi Zacharias' teachings.

A valuable tool to help orient the serious student into the basic tenets of various religions/cults. A quick study which will help inform understanding of teachings, world events and world views. A handy reference to use when someone asks about a particular religion/cult- one can provide a pithy 'sound bite' explanation of what beliefs a cult has/explain what makes that cult different from others.

Classic book...I own the one from 1977 and decided to get the update, since there are a lot more cults out there. Back then we had the "Hare Krishna's" in their orange gowns selling flowers in almost every airport, "Moses David" and the "Children of God," ( a really sick, sexual abomination of a cult!), EST, TM--both of which I believe are still around, although they don't seem to have as much exposure as they did back then--Harold Armstrong's "The World of Tomorrow," which is still around, only it's called "Armstrongism\Anglo-Israelism," the "Moonies," which is Sun Myung Moon, who died a few years ago--and now his wife runs it, "Bahai Faith," "Father Divine," only I think he died and that was the end of that one, I could keep going, but you get the idea.I believe today's are a lot more sinister in their approach, only because the spirit of Satan is stronger on the earth: more crime, more insanity, more evil, more controlling of men's thoughts, actions and lives. While this book does cover his earlier work, Dr. Martin adds newer--and more dangerous cults of today's society in this edition. If you want to be informed, or are just curious, this book is a must.

This is the second time I have owned such an edition. Although the subsequent editions are updated to current data and world conditions, I prefer this original version because the "voice" of Walter Martin is consistent throughout. While the updated version is good and invaluable for study, there were passages within where I could detect the change in language and "voice" as something other than that of Walter Martin's.

I do ministry with college students and it's so helpful to have a book like this which gives an overview of many different cults and their basic beliefs. It's especially helpful for me working in a college setting, where you run into a wide variety of faith systems that have over time, become mainstream like Mormonism. The book for instance shows what key differences Mormonism has with biblical Christianity. Some of the cults in the book, I never even knew existed such as the Unification Church (Moonies) or something that doesn't get as much less attention such as Unitarian Universalism, which help to prepare me for doing ministry with people who may adhear to their beliefs when on campus.

I first saw this book in my church library. I was completely enthralled from the beginning pages until the end. It is most alarming what we DONT KNOW about the different 'religious groups' that are in existence. I had to purchase it for a reference book to return to again and again.

It's a long book, and as I read it over lunch most days, it took a while. What I liked the most was the deep scholarship and very thorough referencing; the author did a tremendous amount of research. A close second is the author's balanced view of some sects' honest Christian stances even when some of their theology is contradictory. I also liked his attitude of compassion towards those who labor in the darkness of various cults or philosophies. Though he is thorough with Bible references, I have difficulty with his almost exclusive use of the King James translation. Having done some scientific studies of the Rorschach and being intensely regretful about how little interest there currently is in these inkblots as a research tool I mainly read this book to learn more about this intriguing man who, like Mozart and Schubert, died in his middle thirties, and left a lasting legacy. It turned out to be fascinating portrait of the man and the method he invented. Hermann Rorschach was not a glamorous guy- he worked on the backwards of State Hospitals with chronic patients that his contemporaries largely ignored, just as they are today - but he was at once a survivor, a great creative artist and a devoted man of science who was fascinated with the ways people (whether insane or "normal") make sense of the world they live in. I wish that the same questions that Rorschach asked, and only approximated in measuring, would continue to vex the best neuroscience laboratories of today. I loved the description of his path of discovery, and of the subsequent fate of his method around the world.

There is a relationship between wisdom and understanding. It is the associate connection between what we see and how we feel. “The Inkblots”, by Searls is a fascinating and thought provoking look into the development and history of the test and it’s author, Hermann Rorschach.Different people see things differently. The various avenues of inquiry with regard to these differences requires an examination of the subject’s unconscious. An unstructured and non-objective test can reveal a subjects unconscious needs and motivations which contribute to the manner in which he responds to the question, “Tell me what you see”. The subject’s responses are evaluated according to the quality and coherence of his thought processes.The assumption of the test is that we are not passive recipients of stimuli; nor are we passive with regard to the way we interpret facts. The manner and logic of responses constitute the overall strength or weakness of a subject’s organizing ability. According to the projective hypothesis there is a back and forth process whereby one projects himself while concurrently internalizing his world. In other words, our reactions rest on the manner in which we associate our ideas.Most insightful, I believe, is Rorschach’s emphasis on the process of empathy. We gain the ability to connect with the world by exercising our capacity for empathy. The counter pole to empathy is defined as “abstraction”. “Abstraction”, is described as “an urge to turn one’s back or pull away from a connection with the world.”Searls goes on to explain the two poles of logical synthesis, deduction and induction. Details of the blot once identified can be further integrated in accordance with the reality of the blot. Cognitive coherence and cognitive complexity go hand in hand with our ability to remain reality oriented.This is a fascinating book, both for its range of information and its focus on detail. I thoroughly enjoyed Searls’ emphasis on the human dimension of personality. After all, the personality is a fascinating topic for not just psychologists and an effort to understand ourselves is always an endeavor worth pursuing.

I am a Psychologist who used (and taught) Rorschach for over thirty years. I studied under Margarite Hertz at Western Reserve University. This book is an excellent biography and history of the Rorschach Psychodiagnostic. Fascinating, scientific, and well written to boot. Hard to pass up.

What can I tell you? I'm a retired psychologist and hated the Rorschach when I was trained in the late 1970s. Having read the book, I was fascinated by by the man Rorschach, and I learned a lot about the test itself and what could be interpreted from it, things I never fully grasped or believed in in earlier years. Fortunately, I don't think I ever used one after I got my license to practice, although I did a few test batteries to assess cognitive disorders, IQs, and memory problems in nu sing home patients. I provided psychotherapy help for 30 years, from age 40-70.

I expected to enjoy a biography of Hermann Rorschach, the kind of experience which leaves the reader feeling as if he or she actually knows the subject well upon completion of the book. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver on this point. The author admits that his own Rorschach test revealed that he is "a little obsessive". The information compiled in this tome certainly bears witness to that. You'll find an exhaustive history of the test's opponents and proponents, data on its rise and fall in popularity, its emergence & use in the US, etc. Before the midpoint, Rorschach dies and those early pages cover much more than his life. I would have preferred 80% Rorschach and 20% facts, figures, and other psychologists. The book reads like a thesis, but, as a layperson, left me a tad dissatisfied. If you're looking for an in-depth history of the inkblots, this is the book.

This was a remarkable book that included a fascinating description of the creator of the inkblots and a worthy review of the history of their use. It is a balanced account of data collection vs interpretation questions that have accompanied the use of the Rorschach test. I was surprised at how widely the test had been used and happy to learn that there continue to be current developments. Damion Searls has done a masterful job and I hope that the book is widely read.

I selected this book because i thought it might be interesting to know more about a topic I've heard of but had no real experience. I absolutely loved reading it. The book is very well researched and, while I'm not an expert, I see no stone left unturned. I found it informative, illustrative, and thoughtful. I feel improved having read it. Nice job, Mr. Searls.

Rohrschach was such a positive person among a number of psychiatrists who didn't believe people could flourish. I truly appreciate Searls bringing him to our attention. I love this book and am recommending it to as many people as follow my twitter and FB fees.

This is a cute small book that can easily be read in one sitting. Long story short, some say that animals have no souls therefore they don't go to heaven. In this book, it's the total opposite! Dogs, cats, birds, etc. are all of Gods beautiful creations. Our deceased pets showed us LOVE and it was unconditional love that made it so pure and beautiful. This book put my mind at ease after I had to put my best friend down on Easter Sunday. I miss you, my gorgeous girl! Until we meet again...

It's been five weeks since my baby died. For twelve years he loved me. He was loyal and he would always follow me from room to room. Of all God's creatures, I love dogs. This book helps to heal the pain when losing a beloved dog.

My favorite dog is 12, at this time, with multiple health problems. I know there are fewer days ahead of us than there are behind us. While Fr. Jack's writings have not stopped my fears and tears, he did change my way of thinking.As a child, when my family's dog died while I was about 6-7, I asked my grandmother if she thought our dog was in heaven. She said "no" because animals do not have souls. I believed that for the next 45 years. I have no children, and have been divorced twice, so my dog is my only family. I have been praying so hard that I get to see him again. Then, I found this book. I am not Catholic, and have no affinity for Catholic saints, but I am Born Again. This book provides very coherent reasoning why all of creation will continue in paradise: Man is the only creature created on earth guilty of sin, and the Bible is God's handbook for Man. Salvation is meant for humans because we are the ones headed to Hell without it.I still have questions about some animals (fish, because the new earth will not have seas, and protozoa...what about them?), and I would love to meet the author one day and ask him, but this book has provided the first glimmer of hope for me. Faith will have to carry on from there.If you are hurting over the loss of a beloved animal, read this. It helped me so much!

After losing my best friend, Sylvester, about a week-and-a-half ago, I began reading many of my cat books that I had put off seeing that many of them end up with the passing of beloved feline. This book was the first one I dived into.The book is short, but to the point, and provides numerous examples of where Scripture clearly proves God also loves the animals of this world and they will be a part of the new Heaven and new earth.Friar Jack Wintz's book is a tremendous blessing for anyone who has lost a beloved cat or dog. It truly has been a blessing for me. Someday, I will see my buddy, Sylvester, in Heaven!

This little book explained so simply that God created animals to help us and keep us company all the days of their lives. God would not create something so loving and faithful and then let it disappear when it's life had come to an end. I learned and I believe I will see my beautiful and faithful Sedona in Heaven. She just got there before me that's all. Please read this small, wonderful book and keep the scriptures in your heart.

I bought this as a gift for a friend a few days after her cat died, and she has been comforted by it. I also got the original version for myself. Both are similar (I read both to compare). They are written by Father Jack Wintz, so it does focus on the Catholic perspective. It is not a lengthy book (about 110 pages), and an easy read. It gives a hopeful viewpoint on a difficult topic. I remember in my childhood home a framed cross-stich that read "Cats Are People Too," and as one who grew up with cats, horses, rabbits, and other animals, I believed it. I experienced the love and companionship of animals firsthand, so it was always hard for me to grasp the concept of a Heaven without the souls of the animals who helped raise me. Again, the author mostly encompasses all forms of animals into this conversation.If this book is intended as a gift, there is a presentation page in which the giver can write that it is in remembrance of an animal. At 102 easy pages, this book is a quick and comforting read for those who are mourning their lost animal friends. I bought it for myself to help me mourn my own loss, and it was very helpful.

i ordered the 2018 revised version of the 2010 original print..in paperback. what i got was a hardcover (not complaining here) of the 2010 book..the 1 i ordered had the senior dog on the front . the 2010 one and the 1 i got has a puppy on the front. with the same parts of the 1st one but the one i ordered had readers comments and pics of their pets that were sent in..i was going to return this one and try to order again the 1 i tried to order in the 1st place..but i looked through this one and it is ok, no marking except the part where it says who from and to who..it's nicely done so i'm ok with that..wanted to see readers comments and pics of loved pets but that was the main reason i ordered this book..so anyway kept it..looks like it will be an interesting read..

This is an excellent read. I'm a Baby Boomer and was alive when this event happened. The book was well researched and factual. It caught me up and I read it quickly. I highly recommend this book and a look at one of the darkest moments in the history of the USA.

Not too bad but being an assassination buff and having read hundreds of books on it this was mediocre. Not as good as Bill's other books by any stretch of the imagination!

Full of wonderfully photographs. Excellent book for children and seniors who have trouble reading. Such a sad event I our history. This book documents it well.

Similar to his other books, goes back in time as I thought it was going to focus on his last days in more detail.

Great for young readers - 6th-12th grade. Easy to comprehend. Straightforward with no fluff.

Very easy to read got through it in a day. Mostly everything we already new about, there were a few things that were mentioned in the book that were new info for me.

I have purchased 5 of Bill O''Rielly's books. They include all the facts related to subject matter, and are an excellent read.
